202020 – A Device Fast Unto the Lord

Screen Shot 2020-03-17 at 11.02.54 AMCalling God’s People to a Device Fast- Friday March 20, 2020

This morning I heard the Lord say “Call My people to a fast, a holy fast.”

The word I received came with specific instructions which culminates with a day of fasting on March 20, 2020. I am not calling for a food fast but a media/device fast. I’m talking about abstaining from TVs, computers, tablets, notebooks, phones, etc. for entertainment and time passing purposes.

20 Minutes A Day for the Next Three Days

Over the next few days the Lord is asking for His people to take 20 minutes each day to seek the Lord in prayer with a heart of re-dedication and re-commitment to Christ. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (3/17-3/19) of this week, take 20 minutes to spend alone with God.

God is calling His people to re-dedication and reconsecration to Him. We are being called to bring our hearts before Him to resubmit our lives to Christ anew. There is no set way to do this. Whatever that looks like for you personally. If you can’t take 20 minutes at a time, try to take one minute 20 times or two minutes 10 times, or five minutes four times each day. It’s just twenty minutes for the day for the next three days.

One Day of Media Fasting

Then on Friday to spend the day abstaining from media and devices as a fast before the Lord. That doesn’t mean we have to spend the entire day in prayer. (unless you specifically feel led by the Holy Spirit to do so)

When I inquired as to what kind of fast, Holy Spirit was specific. He said a device fast and highlighted the number 202020.  The 202020 rule has to do with giving your eyes a rest from computer/device viewing. It’s about looking at something else to prevent damage to your eyes.

Screen Shot 2020-03-17 at 11.01.30 AMI am calling God’s people to turn away from media/computer/device use on Friday, March 20, 2020 for the purpose of seeking the Lord and calling on His Name. Holy Spirit is calling the people of God to turn off their TV’s, computers, and devices and rest their eyes on God.

I believe we are facing days when it is vital to seek God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. (Mk 12:30) It is a time to set our faces before the Lord and to seek Him, not solely because we are facing troubling days, but for the purpose of recommitting reconsecrating our lives to God.

This great trial we are facing and will continue to face in the days ahead will put tremendous strain on all of us. We will need God’s wisdom and the compassion of Christ to endure this challenge.

James 3:17 NLT But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

prayer-app-image-1When we fast (abstain) and redirect our attention to God, it breaks the constant influx coming from the world. It causes our soul to be less distracted with the busyness of the outside world and it’s influences. It positions us to hear from Him and receive the wisdom and grace we so desperately need. Just as breaking our focus off the computer helps to reduce eye strain, breaking our media focus and looking at God refocuses our spiritual eyes.

Join me on Friday, March 20, 2020 for a 202020 media/device fast.

Let’s seek God together.

Joel 2:12-13 NLT That is why the LORD says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and  compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.

Our Father in heaven:

May your holy name be honored;

May your Kingdom come;

May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today the food we need.

Forgive us the wrongs we have done,

as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.

Do not bring us to hard testing,

but keep us safe from the Evil One. Amen

Matthew 6:9-13 GNT

The Lord bless you,
