Watching the Established Life Become Visible

The Witness of the Biblical Calendar and a Year of Alignment

5787 has begun.

For months, I have been listening to the witnesses that gathered around this year. What began with the movement from vav to zayin gradually widened as the biblical calendar, the appointed times, the months, the Hebrew letters, biblical histories, and familiar passages of Scripture began bringing their testimony alongside one another.

I did not begin with twelve meanings for twelve months. I did not set out to construct a prophetic forecast for the year. I simply kept listening.

And the witnesses kept coming.

Some were quiet. Some were rather rowdy. Some carried me into places I expected to go, while others led me somewhere I could not have anticipated when I began. There were moments when an ancient history suddenly stood beside something Jesus said, when a Hebrew letter illuminated what had already begun to emerge, and when a familiar passage of Scripture sounded different because of the witnesses standing around it.

Again and again, their testimony brought me back to Christ.

We are not standing on the side of history that is waiting for Him to accomplish His work. We are on the other side of the cross and resurrection. We are also on the other side of the Spirit’s outpouring. The life we are watching for is not waiting to be established. It has already been established in Christ.

So the question that remained with me was this:

What does that established life look like when it becomes visible through His people?

That question became Watching the Established Life Become Visible: The Witness of the Biblical Calendar and a Year of Alignment.

This is a substantial reflection meant to be carried with us through 5787. You can read it straight through, but you do not have to. You may want to return to it as the months unfold, listening again to the witnesses associated with that particular part of the year and watching to see what becomes recognizable.

This is an inviation to watch.

The Father’s witnesses didn’t start speaking when we heard their voice. And their testimony does not belong to us simply because we have learned to recognize it. We neither chose them as witnesses nor invented their testimony.

They point beyond themselves.

They bring us to the Son.

And perhaps, as this year unfolds, what we have been learning to recognize as testimony will increasingly become a testimony we are living.

We have entered the year. Now we watch.
