My Thoughts on Hanukkah

A Second Sukkot

Hanukkah is a celebration of victory and freedom, akin to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Fourth of July combined. It’s a time to celebrate, even if it means celebrating by faith, as the past few years have been challenging for many. The focus should be on joy, gratitude, and spending time with loved ones, rather than material possessions.

Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple after the Maccabean victory over the Seleucid army. The celebration, inspired by the joyous Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), featured elaborate light displays, music, dancing, and festivities, symbolizing the Jews’ newfound freedom and the restoration of their temple. This exuberant eight-day festival, akin to a grand celebration, marked a pivotal moment in Jewish history.
